To tell the truth - and that must be what this site is about, after all - I knew of neither this book nor even this author when I saw it as having not been reviewed. Wondering why, I surveyed the title, and found it a really quite enjoyable collection of poetry by a major British author. Looking elsewhere on the Internet I find James Fenton was saddled with the bald egg-head look in his early 40s. Private school, Oxford education, lots of political and literary journalism on his CV - is this really the sort of author we should be looking towards in these youthful times? On this evidence, yes.
