The Story **************
Patrick lanigan has died in a car crash. Before that he was living the American dream, nice big house, attractive wife and the trappings of successful business. The only problem is that at the time of his death $90 million went missing from the company he worked for. Lanigan is really alive but he is soon tracked down and brought back to face justice. Thats where Lanigan uses his cunning to hire a lawyer to help get him off almost scott free.

My View************
The book is one that gets your brain working as page by page the story builds into an unbelievable climax. This is not a book you can just switch off and read, and some people may find it heavy going. My advice is to stick with it, as the ending is worth it. There is a lot of pages used to go in to the details of American law but they are worth wading through.
The scary thing is, that what happens to Lanigan, and what he does could be possible. With each charge against him falling away due to technicalities in the legal structure this may make you question if the law is capable from preventing certain crimes from happening, and if not, it could be powerless to punish those committing them. The thing is this will have you rooting for lanigan to get away with what he has done. This is all credit to Grishams way of making you feel for the characters in the story. With criminals still having to be released on technicalities even when they are guilty, not just in America but also in the UK, this story becomes very believable. This is another great legal thriller from the master himself. I would recommend this book as a must read

Summary: a read that will make you question the legal system
