PCOS
¬¬¬¬¬
PCOS Is a particularly nasty condition condition caused by hormonal imbalances (basicly you have too much male hormones ) that is surprisingly common in women, 1/10 in fact though in my experience there are a lot of tired ratty women who are mearly undiagnosed.
The symptoms vary widely from woman to woman and the list of possible symptoms could be several pages long. But here are some of the more common ones :- Infertility, Acne, Hirsutism, Weight gain, Hair Thinning, Insulin Resistance, Lack of focus and concentration, Lethargy, Irregular or absent periods, hypos, passing out fits, Abdominal pain, depression and anxiety.
Yes basicly for the cynical minded ( Fat, Ugly and Miserable and brain dead).
The Book
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
Fat , Ugly, miserable and brain dead was exactly me before a good friend who was looking after me at my worst bought me this book, and I can honestly say it changed my life dramatically for the better.
To be fair it is a well laid out book and easy to understand, unless that is you are one of the PCOS sufferers with sever mental dulling, in which case it is probably best to get some help with it, until the book helps re-brighten your mind and you can take it from there.
Most sections have short stories and or quotes from other sister sufferers that really help you feel less alone, sympathised with and gives initial hope the book is good if you have nothing eels to go on yet.
Lay Out
¬¬¬¬¬¬
Part 1 Nutritional Healing for PCOS - Laying the Foundations
-------
Chapter 1 Why Food Is So Important for Women with PCOS
This chapter explains about insulin resistance and how that works since it is the main primary cause link to most of the energy, weight, and mental symptoms, showing there for how highly important what and how you eat is to your PCOS .
The metabolism is talked about and why normal diets don't really work properly for us, what to do different in general terms and so on.
Chapter 2 Your PCOS Diet
Now don't expect a day by day guide line we all know that's not really practical advice any way. No this section crams your brain with endless detail about what you should / shouldn't eat lots off ,why and how to cope with it. If you know a lot about food this section will fill in all the black spaces left by chapter 1 and be your main guide to recovery.
Chapter 3 The PCOS Detox Boost
Funnily enough this part is all you could ever want to know about Detoxing. It also speaks about pesky hormonal imbalances, and how these things effect stress and sleep. More the big picture is clicked into place.
Chapter 4 Your Sample Menu and Recipes.
Chapter 4 I believe is and will be a Goddess send for anyone still trying to wrap their head around chapter 2 . It starts of with a handy example 10 day menu and a good guide line at that. Following that there is a pile of great tasting PCOS friendly meals.
Part 2 - Tackling Your Problems
-------
Chapter 5 Fine Tuning Your Diet to Beat PCOS
Most PCOS sufferers have different symptoms , so while Chapters 1-4 cover overall health and stability, this chapter is all about tackling particular symptoms that make your life hell from vitamins for fatigue to herbs for hairy things that shouldn't be hairy.
Chapter 6 Adapting Your Diet for Your Health - When You have PCOS and Diabetes, Thyroid Problems or Digestive Disorders.
Well the title says it all here really
Chapter 7 Losing Weight - Breaking the PCOS Cycle.
Here we focus more intently on weight loss since it is one of the most common problems.
Chapter 8 A to Z of Useful Supplements and How to Use Them
again pretty self explanatory.
Part 3 Prepare for Success: Motivation Support and a Healthy Attitude to Food.
-------
Hear comes the psychology side of the diet. Like how to get motivated to change for the better and healing your emotional relationship with food etc.
There is also loads of listed support groups and handy websites/ addresses.
The Contents page tells you there is still another 30 pages of appendix, references, suggested reading etc. but by book does not actually have these last 30 pages.
To Sum Up
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
Positive: Amazing life changing book , the most usefully book Iv ever read.
Negative: Missing 30 pages.
And all for just £12.99 new.
Summary: A God send to anybody suffering badly from PCOS symptoms
