This is an alternative comic- that chronichles the life of it's author- Joe Matt. An american thirty somthing living in a bedsit in Toronto, Canada.

The man invites us to "peep" at his myriad of personal obbsessions and flaws that seem exclsive to a certain type of male- his extreme laziness (he releases one comic a year if your lucky) his inability to sustain a relationship with a women and his extreme tightness when money is concerned- but somehow I've grown to love this bad tempered porn loving catholic- and maybe you will to.

It's sort of a comic version of a woody Allen film (the Annie Hall kind) only with the main charater as more of a lonley failure and with far more stark references to "X rated" subject matter.

If you're the type of person that hates Woody Allen films or any kind of autobiographical column/ docusoap, this comic may not be for you- as it is basically therapy for the neurotic sex obbsessed loner ( which is probably why so many comic readers relate to the book!)

But it's a very funny look at a certain generation of male and it's pretty un-selfserving this doesn't seem to be a flattering portrayal of a man (Although all his friends say he's worse in real life!).

Personally I've always had a certain affection for these tragi-comic males, I'm a fan of the Adrian Mole diaries (The book not the awful sitcom thats currently showing) and Charlie brown comic strips- so if these appeal to you give Joe Matt a go!

Note to Brits:

Joe Matt comics aren't readily avialable in bookshops. Also comic shops rarely have back issues- however there are 2 collections of his work that are readily available- "Peepshow" and "the poor bastard" these are availble through some comic shops- (try London's "Gosh"- if your in the area) can be ordered from websites such as Amazon.co.uk or through the website of the pu
