Fairy tales. Not the wishy-washy Disney versions, but proper fairytales, the ones that have real adventure in them; maidens that have to work for ten years to earn shoes to climb glassy hills, children lost in the woods, hairy boggarts and laidly worms. I love these. Did you know that the original version of Cinderella ended when she woke up and gave birth to twins? ‘Pericles’ is a fairytale too. It’s usually critically lumped together with ‘The Tempest’, ‘The Winter’s Tale’ and ‘Cymbeline’ as Shakespeare’s ‘’later plays’.
