It also contains many of the high frequency words that children need to know for reading and writing (and, the, by, on, a etc.). Here is an example of text from the story; 'Frog sits on his log by the bog. With one big hop, he jumps over the bog. Off he goes! Frog likes to jog. Premium Review Phonics Readers: Frog on a Log - Phil Roxbee Cox: Will the frog on the log end up in a bog? (303 words)

Rating:

This is a story from the set of usbourne's phonic readers, designed to promote phonic knowledge in younger children. I was recommended these books by my child's teacher to support my son in his phonics recognition and to develop his confidence in reading. I bought a set of 12 books from the book people for about £10. Definately worth it in my opinion. The books uses repetition of the initial phonic sounds that the children encounter in everyday reading through similar words such as frog, log, bog, jog. This encourages quick recognition of initial sounds and blending them together to read simple words. It also contains many of the high frequency ...  Read the complete review

Frog on a Log is another book from the Usborne Phonics Readers collection. It costs £4.99 if you buy it individually, but it's much better value to get it as part of the box set. The font that they've used for the title (as you can see in the picture) is the same font they've used for the text throughout the book. Great for adults looking to read something a little jazzy, but a bit tricky for a small child trying ...  Read the complete review
