'Picking up the Pieces' focuses more on Paul Britton's NHS and clinical work than his first book 'The Jigsaw Man'. For this reason I found it a less enjoyable read as it was the details of criminology and offender profiling that attracted me to this author in the first place. Many of the cases discussed in his first book are revisited, so as I had already read the Jigsaw Man I found it tedious to read at times. However, for those readers who have not read 'The Jigsaw Man' I'm sure it would prove an interesting and informative read, giving a greater insights into the dark minds of the criminally insane. ... If you read the Jigsaw Man then you will find this sequel just as difficult to put down once you pick it up ! It gives you a great insight into Paul Britton's job as a Criminal Psychologist and some of the people who he has to work with to overcome their problems. It's gripping stuff, as you move through the book he touches on various clients and his dealings with them and then moves on to another client, leaving you in suspense and completely unable to put the book down ! Some people may already be familiar with this book, since excerpts of it were recently printed in a national Sunday newspaper. Anyone who read that series of articles might be forgiven for dismisssing the book - however, the material printed in the newspapers was by no means a true reflection of it's content. Paul Britton is one of this country's leading Forensic Psychologists. For those unfamiliar with the term,this means that he works with all things criminal, such as compiling offender profiles, advising on how prisons should be run and treating individuals who have committed (or are in his opinion, about to commit) serious crimes such as murder, ...
