I was reluctant to review 'Pobby and Dingan' as I didn't think I could write anything nearly good enough to describe the brilliance of the book. But as it seems relatively unknown, I thought I would give it a go and maybe encourage a few more people to read it. 'Pobby and Dingan' is a short story written by British author Ben Rice. It's set in a small Australian town, Lightning Ridge and follows the Williamson family; mum, dad, son Ashton, and daughter Kellyanne. Dad, Rex (along with most of the town's residents) gets by, by mining for opal - a precious gemstone. It's a fairly fruitless trade but Rex swears that some day he'll make millions. You know how there are some books that make you want to go and tell all your friends about it, the minute you finish reading it? You know how there are some books you go out and buy copies of, to give to people, to make sure that they actually sit down and read it too? Well, 'Pobby and Dingan' is not that sort of book. It's better than that. It makes you want to go up to strangers on the street and tell them about it. It made a friend of mine, who I successfully converted to the cult, seriously consider bulk-buying a load of copies and posting them at random through people's letterboxes.
