A while ago my younger sister had a book clearout, knowing my love of reading she "donated" them to my ongoing book club that I run through my workplace, hence the review.
The book I will now review is - "Poison Arrows by Morag Prunty"
This is a shock book to me. I only picked this book up to read as it was on the top of the pile and my daughter was asleep and I didn't want to disturb her..... Not really a reason is it! But by god (excuse the pun), I'm glad I did!
I will try to do a general overview, there is rather a varied storyline happening so bear with me!
Christian is a cupid, this means he is a messenger of God and aids in the "pairing" of suitable couples on earth, he is by design also gay, something that makes for some great lines from fellow cupids further on in the book, especially from a cupid called Mayday who has been written as the Boy George of the heaven world!
Christian has been sent an assignment by his next in command (Arc angel Gabriel), in the small Irish village of Gorrib.
Gorrib is one of the original places for a cupid to be assigned to, so thinking he has really pissed Gabriel off by being sent there and not Paris like he was hoping to, he gets underway.
This is where it gets confusing, Christian has three separate couples to join together, childhood sweethearts Moses and Rose who unexpectedly split up in there early twenties. Roses daughter and anyone other than Theo, who has been her "friend" since childhood, but to all intents is a complete shit! And finally local girl Sandra, who escaped from the grasp of Gorrib in her teens and made a name for herself as a top class lap dancer. Her partner to be is local lad Dermot, who after the death of his parents, convinced himself he was too good for the likes of Gorrib and left to make his fortune, which he does..... In the millions!
After spending the best part of his mission manipulating all the above mentioned characters, Christian soon discovers God has another plan with Gorrib being the epicentre of a fight with Satan, does Christian complete his mission, or does he lose the faith?
This book in a word is simply ...... hilarious! The content at a glance seems very religious, it is anything but. The entire story is told through Christians stand point, there is also wonderful so called "e-mails" sent through psychic waves between Christian, Gaby (Gabriel) and at one time God. Each is documented as a real e- mail and contains such things as, expenditure (or lack of it), invisibility access and money for "essentials", ie money for the lap dancing club to help Sandra!
Be warned this book will have you hooked from beginning to end and right until the last minute you genuinely don't know how or if the couples get together!
This book is available from Amazon new and second hand. New, it is available for the price of £5.99 plus P&P - www.amazon.co.uk
This book, (in case you hadn't gathered yet!), comes highly recommended (by me!), ENJOY!
Thanks for reading x
