It is truly amazing how much the social and political shape of the world has changed in the last 10 years. You simply don’t realise how much progress (whether for good or for bad) has been made in the last decade, and sometimes the simple act of reading a book brings it all home. At least, this is the experience I had when I decided to pick up ‘Pole to Pole’ again a few weeks ago. Pole to Pole is a fascinating book about Michael Palin's 1994 trip from North to South pole.The book is accompanied by a BBC tv series of the same name. I would recommend Pole to Pole to anyone who enjoys nonfiction, but especially those who are interested in travel and adventure as this book gives a great feeling of being there without getting your feet wet and your skin bitten by midges!The book is written in a day by day "diary" style and according to the note at the beginning of the book,was not amended/adapted before publishing.
