Advantages: Part of a Series that is Good

Disadvantages: Bit Boring, Non-Eventful etc

Pop Goes the Weasel is another popular crime thriller by James Patterson starring his famous detective Alex Cross. This book is next in line from 'Cat and Mouse' so it's best if you read that first.

Basically, detective Alex Cross is needed in two places at once - but which will he choose? Firstly there are murders going on in a black community and Alex wants to deal with those but then some rich white guy gets bumped off and his boss wants him to give the case priority.

We know all about the killer right from the outset in this book which is something you don't often find in crime thrillers. That said, you do find it in other James Patterson books. The story focuses more on what the killer is doing and why than the suspense of the reader trying to figure out who he is. The killer is quite believable to a point but unfortunately, the events that take place are a bit simple even for the likes of me.

Also in this story is talk of marriage between Alex Cross and his girlfriend Christine (who we meet in other books in the series before this one). It's a nice addition to the book I guess because otherwise - there's not a lot going on! I suppose perhaps the romantic aspect in this is more appealing to some than others - it's just not terribly appealing to me.

I'm a simple bloke in all fairness, one who reads books rather than novels. But even I thought this was taking the mickey a bit. There are loads of annoying little inconsistencies in here and that's coming from someone who took ten years to notice all the smeg ups aired on the notoriously appalling television spoof Red Dwarf.

I don't recommend this book I'm afraid. I suppose some people might enjoy it for the story it is but I think most people will find it boring and inconsistent like I did. James Patterson really let the fans down with this.
