Advantages: Great step by step guide that gets into the heads of little boys
Disadvantages: None
I can not rate this book highly enough if your planning to embark on the difficult task of potty training a boy. Prior to buying this book I have to admit to have two very stressful failed attempts. I was determine to be successful on my 3rd attempt so I needed to enlist professional help in the form of Simone Cave and Caroline Fertleman and their book Potty training boys the easy way. This smallish paperback book has save my sanity.
When it first arrived from amazon I sat and read it cover to cover and was very impressed. It takes a relaxed approach to the task of potty training and aims to have your son dry at home in a couple of weeks and slightly longer for outside the house and at night. It worked for me and my son who was 2 and a half when we got the book, who was been very stubborn and refusing to even sit on the potty after my failed attempts, he was in fact using the potty at home in under two weeks without any accidents. It took slightly longer to be dry outside but the arrival of a new baby meant we were in the home a couple of weeks but he is doing great outside and is even magically dry through the night so it certainly works.
After the intital introduction the book is spilt into to sections which guides you through the process step by step and well as having problem solving section as i'm sure your bound to have the odd hiccup. We did my son had a fear of pooing. The authors clearly have a great understanding how little boys work they say "our fundamental aim has been to get into the heads of little boys so that even the most wilful or boisterous child will happily relinquish his nappies and start using the potty and toilet without any hang-ups." and it was almost if they had written the book specially for my son.
The whole process has in fact been quite enjoyable as it has been wonderful to see how grown up and independant my son has become in just a few weeks. He loves nothing more now than running round the house in just his spiderman pants. I certainly couldn't have done this without this book it is such a good read and helps prepare both yourself and your son for the task ahead.
Summary: An excellent aid to potty training a must read

- 27/06/09 Thanks for this. Sounds like a very helpful book.
My youngest son is nearly two and we're starting to plan for potty training at some point soon! (My oldest is nearly seven so it's been a while since we went through the whole process!) |

- 16/06/09 A good review, but it would be a good idea to split the review into paragraphs to make it a bit easier to read. |
