Advantages: Great Writer, Great Books, Great book covers
Disadvantages: May get a bit lost in the story once in a while
I first heard of Terry Pratchett a few years ago when some of my friends said their brothers read the books and they were meant to be quite good. I thought I'd try them out.
I found out that alot of his books came under one set, 'The Discworld Novels'. He has wrote alot of other books, but the Discworld Novels were good ones to start off with. I went out and bought 'The Colour of Magic', the first Discworld Novel, and started to read it. At first I was intrigued, now I'm obsessed! His books are fantastic!
The Discworld Novels are based on the Discworld (funnily enough) which is a big snowglobe (they live inside the snowglobe) on the backs of four huge elephants, all on the back of a giant turtle floating through space! He has a fantastic imagination and a huge amount of wit and he uses this to his advantage when writing his books.
The first two books follow the same character round, Rincewind, an awful wizard. The books do have other characters and sort of cuts to a different scene, like in a movie, but the first two books are set around Rincewind. The other books are set around one character, but they are all different. 'Mort' is set around Mort, 'Sourcery' is set around the eighth son of an eighth son of an eighth son, a sourceror, and 'Wyrd Sisters' is, as said in the book:
"Starring Three Witches, also kings, daggers, crowns, storms, dwarfs, cats, ghosts, spectres, apes, bandits, demons, forests, heirs, jesters, tortures, trolls, turntables, general rejoicing and divers alarums." which says it all really.
Terry Pratchett is able to write books for all ages and I find his style of writing extremely interesting. He uses a style of wit and sensibleness at the same time, danger and safety all at once, it's really hard to explain, but you should read the books yourself. I think the books are great and would recommend them to anyone who can read!
