Quite frankly, useless. I sat the BMAT this year, and was astounded at how different the actual paper was to the book. The ease of the questions in the book is irritating, whilst the actual paper, is in my honest opinion the 4th hardest exam I have ever sat, and the hardest exam of any importance. I was talking to a friend about this, and the way he saw it was that you should buy the book because then you can say you have done all you can, and in that respect he is probably right.
