Priceless - Nicole Richie
Advantages: exciting, interesting characters, girly book with an edge, better than Richie's first book
Today I'm going to review a book I just finished a few days ago. It's called "Priceless" and was written by Nicole Richie.
I discovered this book when I checked out if Nicole Richie has written another book. I quite enjoyed her first book, "The Truth About Diamonds" and wondered if she'd write another - and there it was!
I like Nicole Richie as a person because she has grown up to be a responsible young women with children, a husband and a lot of involvement in charity work. I even liked here when she was doing the show "The Simple Life" with Paris Hilton, but now I like her even more. So I was really interested in her next book and ordered "Priceless" when I had an Amazon voucher.
Charlotte Williams is a rich, spoiled girl from New York. She lives in a beautiful, expensive flat with her wealthy father, who's working in the financial sector. Charlotte more or less studies, but she doesn't have to work for her prestigious lifestyle of parties, nights out and expensive couture. Charlotte is famous all over the city because she wears the most exciting vintage designer pieces which she inherited from her mother, who was a famous model and died when she Charlotte a child.
When Charlotte returns from a year of studying in Paris, her world suddenly crumbles apart. Her wealthy father is arrested for cheating his clients, stelling millions of dollars from client of all social classes. Now Charlotte is left alone with her bank accounts frozen and angry people and the press chasing her, blaming her for her father's misdoings.
Charlotte takes her last bit of money and buys a plane ticket to New Orleans, seeking shelter with her former nanny Miss Millie. Millie is happy to see Charlotte - the two women share a deep bond. But Millie's son Jackson is warry of Charlotte, who had his mother all to herself when he needed her as a child.
But soon, Charlotte manages to make friends in New Orleans and even finds herself a job, washing dishes at the restaurant of Kat Karraby's father , a local celebrity. Kat and Charlotte become good friends and Jackson begins to think more of Charlotte when he discovers that she can sing, making a good contribution to his jazz band.
Everything would go well if there wasn't a strange man threatening Charlotte and creating a nasty website about her. He seems to be one of the people who fell victim to her father's fraud and he wants to kill Charlotte! For the first time, Charlotte learns what real friends are, but the threats keep her on her toes!
I really enjoyed "Priceless". It is much more well written than "The Truth About Diamonds". The characters are more interesting and really stick to your mind. The story is memorable and entertaining as it mixes crime fiction, a love story and chic-lit without being daft.
I really liked Charlotte's New Orleans friend Kat, who is a fun and quirky character which actually deserved a book of her own!
Throughout the story, you really notice the changes in Charlotte's character - she becomes self-dependend, strong, brave and more insightful. She is glad to leave the parties behind.
The story might sound stereotype at first, but it isn't your typical "wealth is evil"-story. The plot is complex and interesting. The book might be chic-lit at first time, but it's much deeper without excessive shopping and cringe-moments.
I would recommend it for female readers from age 16 as there's some sex and a little violence in it. I guess this is your perfect beach-read if you want someting girly without tons of "shopping and shagging".
I ordered this for Euro14.99 for the hardcover edition on Amazon.de. On Amazon.co.uk, it's only £5.33! A fabulous price for such a nice book in a beautiful hardcover edition.
I defenitely enjoy this book - I read it in less than a week! It was entertaining, exciting and the persons in it are characters to remember! If you're looking for a somewhat girly book with an exciting edge, this will be the right choice for you!
I defenitely recommend "Priceless"!
Summary: A book I really enjoyed!
