~ What is it? ~
This is a fictional book by Nicole Richie.
~ Why did I buy it? ~
I bought this book whilst browsing through a local charity shop, they sell books at 6 for £1 so after finding a few that I wanted I needed another two books to make it up to the six and that is when I picked up this. In all fairness I didn't think this book was going to make a brilliant read so it has sat on my bookcase for the last few months gathering dust, I picked this up by mistake when I went up for a bath but seeing as I am totally lazy I didn't fancy walking (all of the way) back downstairs so I decided it would have to do and started to read it whilst relaxing amongst mases of bubbles!
~ My Thoughts on Nicole Richie as an author ~
My only experience with Nicole Richie is from when she was in The Simple Life with Paris Hilton and that is probably the reason why this book sat on the shelf for months without being read. However, I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised by this book.
The whole plot was good and quite gripping and I did find it well worded and well written.
In whole I would say that Nicole certainly has the ability to write a good book, which did surprise me as in The Simple Life she really seemed rather dull.
~ Priceless ~
Seeing my reluctance to first read this book I have to admit that I ended up finishing the book in two days as I found it really gripping.
The main character Charlotte Williams is not instantly likable and I was unsure whether to carry on reading the book or not as she comes across as a snobby spoilt bitch! But reading along there was a different side to Charlotte that is very likable.
Charlotte's mother passed away when Charlotte was just a child leaving her to be raised by a nanny. Her father has worked hard to give Charlotte everything she has ever wanted and whilst he obviously loves her and she him, when things go wrong she stands up to the mark and shows that she doesn't need Daddy for everything.
As the story progresses it takes a different turn and is nothing like I would expect it to be.
There isn't any weak points in the book and it kept me gripped although the 'baddy' of the book was quite obvious to me immediately. I sort of guessed the outcome of that but the twists and turns keeps the book good.
I am trying to not go into too much detail as I don't want to spoil the book for people that haven't read it but I will say that I am nicely surprised by how good it turned out to be.
~ Overall ~
As you can probably see I ended up liking this book despite my original reservations. I am only sorry that I judged the book by the cover or should that be the author without actually giving it a chance. It has changed my thoughts on Nicole Richie who happens to be a good talented writer.
I would recommend this for a nice bit of chick lit reading.
Thanks for reading :o) x
Summary: A good read from a talented author.
