Private Eyes - Johnathan Kellerman
Description: Author: Jonathan Kellerman / Genre: Crime / Thriller
Private Eyes is part of the Alex Delaware series. Delaware is a child psychologist who also does consultancy work for the LAPD. As with the other books in the series, this one also features his best friend and sidekick Milo Sturgis (a rough and ready cop, who is often discriminated against for being gay), a LAPD detective who is currently on leave from the force, having punched a superior officer in the face on national television.
This story centers around an ex patient of Delaware's called Melissa. He treated her at aged 7 for anxiety problems and counted her as one of his success stories. 9 years later, she makes contact asking for help, this time not for herself, but for her mother. For 2 decades, her mother has suffered severe agoraphobia and been unable to leave her home, following an attack.
Then, without warning, the mother gets in her car, drives out of the gates and disappears. Milo is called in to help to investigate and try to locate her and Delaware assists him in the search.
I won't say any more, so I don't spoil the plot for those who haven't read it, but will say that it wasn't one of the best books in this series. I enjoy the Delaware series a lot, have read quite a few, and have come to expect more from them. This book was not as quickly paced or gripping as it could have been, which was a little disappointing.
It was still a decent read, but lacked some of the intrigue and thrills that Kellerman is known to deliver. If you like this series, then I suspect, that like me, you may be a little let down. Fingers crossed that the next one I read delivers more of what I have come to expect!
Summary: Not the best from Kellerman
