Get your PhD boss to buy a research group copy! I have the second edition of this book but a third edition has come out in the last year or so. The book is essential for PhD and industrial organic chemists. The nature of organic chemistry is at some point going to require you to protect a sensitive group in a reaction at some point during your research. Greene’s book is the bible of protecting group strategy. The third edition apparently retains the format of the second, which is readily understandable.
