Advantages: well written, comedic

Disadvantages: stereotypical ending

I'm not normally one to read chick lit, however i picked this one up at a bargain price after one of my friends had raved about the film. And for a chick lit book its actually quite good, and is a little different to the standard narratives, although it does feature some of the stereotypical slushy storylines.
The primary character is holly, a charming young woman who has just been made a widow following the death of her husband, and is struggling to hold her life together.
However, she soon finds that her darling husband gerry left her behind the best possible gift before dying of a brain tumour. She collects a letter written by him which inside contains ten small envelopes, one for each month, giving her instructions on what to do. These challenges are a way for her to move on and live her life, whilst at the same time holly is able to hold onto the memories of her dead husband for a little longer, until the time comes when she is finally strong enough to be able to say goodbye and move on.

Summary: Good for chick lit fans, but nothing hugely original
