Advantages: Fantastic book, easy reading, great chicklit genre.

Disadvantages: None

Cecelia Ahern is the bestselling author of fiction works such as 'Where Rainbows End' 'If You Could See Me Now' & 'Thanks For The Memories' and her books are generally categorised as being 'chicklit' novels.

PS, I Love you follows Holly and begins just after her husband Gerry has died after suffering a brain tumour. She is naturally grief-stricken and wants to just close off the outside world but her Mother is persistent in trying to get her daughter to visit her and collect some mail that has arrived. Once Holly finally visits her Mother she realises that Gerry has left her 10 letters (one per month for the next 10 months) and each one is designed to help her with her grief and make her start to deal with life as a Widow and show her that she can still have a good time without forgetting about her husband. Each month she can hardly contain her excitement when she realises that it's almost time to open the next letter but then the contents generally feel her with dread at the beginning and then when she takes part in whatever activity or event has been planned for her she finds herself having a great time or learning a new skill or even just forgetting about things for a few hours.

This book brings a different slant on learning how to deal with grief and although at times I believe letters from a passed on loved one would be very upsetting I also think that this would be something to cherish and to help you through the first early months of grieving for somebody and I felt that the letters left behind were very well thought out and how her husband had managed to make arrangements before he passed away was well explained so it was a very plausible storyline. I found the book to keep my attention throughout and I was spending lots of extra time relaxing and enjoying this in the bath, on the way to visit friends & family and before bedtime and the chapters made it easy for me to find a place to put the book down without worrying about missing something or forgetting things that I had just read.

This book contains 512 pages so there was lots of time for each months letter to be played out and it's available from amazon.co.uk for £4.68 in paperback form brand new or new/used from the marketplace from just 1p + postage.

The book was very enjoyable and is one that I would read again, for this reason I am rating it 5/5 and would highly recommend it.

Summary: A fantastic book from Cecelia Ahern.

I really struggled to get through the book, I enjoyed it and it is one of the most beautiful stories I've read, however Cecelia Ahern's writing style just does not flow for me. It's put me off quite a few of her books. This is a great book, and the film is just brill. Brill review. Kirsty x
