The Novel:

Holly Kennedy (the protagonist) is married to an Irishman named Gerry, he is the love of her life.

The book starts with Gerry's death, he has a brain tumour. Although we do get flashbacks through the book to times when he was alive. The book focuses on how Holly has to cope without Gerry in the weeks and months after his death.

As the plot unravels we see how Gerry who had time to prepare for his death wrote a series of 10 letters for Holly, giving her tasks and suprises to gradually help her cope with living without him.

Each letter ends the same way: "P.S. I Love You."

This is Cecelia Ahern's first novel and held number 1 in the Irish book charts for 19 sucessive weeks.

My thoughts:

I read the book before seeing the film. It is a really good book. It is nothing profound or educational but if you're after an easy read that you can't put down then this will serve well.

I read it quite quickly over a day or two but thoroughly enjoyed it. It could be argued that the book is somewhat predictable but when you're after a quick read I don't see this as a problem.

I find Ahern's writing style modern and witty, it is very easy to read. You sink into it very quickly and get absorbed by the story and lost in the plot. I even found myself shedding a tear or two! It was uite emotional at times as the writing was very realistic.

Well worth a read, I was hooked from page one!

Summary: Prime chick lit choice!
