Advantages: Good summer read

Disadvantages: Might make you cry!

This book was recommended by a friend at work so I thought it would be ideal to read for my summer holidays. This is Cecelia Aherns first novel, she is a young Irish novelist, daughter of Bertie Ahern the Irish politician (and if you want some other useless facts her sister Georgina is married to Nicky one of the guys from Westlife - why I want to admit to knowing that I dont know!)

I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I am always tempted by a nice cover. It has an embossed bundle of love letters on the front with a lovely pink bow. I was sold on it before I even opened it. I bought mine at a jumble sale for 50p - bargain!! Another tip is to go to charity shops and buy books there, you get the books cheaper than the shops and the charity gets some money. Also if the book wasn't great you can give it back and you've not lost out on much money. Anyway the RRP is £6.99 but its selling for £3.99 on Amazon at the moment.

PS, I love you is about love and life. Its about a girl called Holly and starts a few weeks after the love of her life Gerry had died from cancer. I know it sounds as if its a really depressing topic for a book but hold on in there it does get better, I promise. Gerry and Holly had been childhood sweethearts and always imagined they would be together forever. Holly is unable to imagine life with out him and the first few chapters shows her family and friends unsuccessfully trying to encourage her to pick up the pieces of her life and get on with it.

Then she discovers a bundle of letters from Gerry written to her before his death, one letter for each month of the year. Each letter challenges her to try something new and help her prepare for life without him. Each note ends with PS, I love you, hence the name of the book. The letters encourage her to try new things and have experiences she never would have done before.

This book made me laugh and cry. Its a story of how true love never dies but life has to go on. Ceceila Ahern has a very easy to read style of writing, the pace is fairly fast moving and the book is quick to read. She manages to combine the tragedy and comedy of the situation in a sympathetic manner. I would recommend this book for holidays or bedtime reading. If you like a book you can really get your teeth into with a complicated storyline and twists and turns then I'd give it a miss - you have been warned!!

P.S. I have read her other book Rainbows End and its even better so watch out for another review at some point in the future.
(I bet you thought I was going to write PS, I love you!!)

Summary: A good summer read about how love continues beyond the grave.

My rating looks awfully harsh, even to me! But I'm really only counting 3 paragraphs of actual review in there - sorry!
