Advantages: generally comprehensive

Disadvantages: sketchy in places

a really useful text to those new to psychology. it's a bit dated now, but that doesn't matter, since it presents the ideas that need to be collected by all psychologists before embarking onto more advanced stuff. there's nothing it doesn't really cover, and it's useful even to the undergrads, covering stuff that isn't touched upon by more 'advanced' texts. plenty of references to key studies, and very useful studies. good layout too, not requiring the reader to run before they can walk. gross lays the way clearly, giving what is necessary rather than potential for confusion.
