If you embarking on a course in counselling then this book is certainly for you. It is aimed at Level 2 counselling but would be helpful to read even if you are still at beginners level. Unlike many academic textbooks, Mearns and Thorne have written something very readable. All the core conditions of Rogerian person-centred theory are thoroughly explained and there are examples from real counselling sessions throughout. Both writers have been practising counsellors for many years and they show that they are real people in real situations.
