Advantages: A good selection of dishes

Disadvantages: There is quite a lot of space taken up by naming items that don't really need instructions

Rachel's Favourite Food for Friends contains many recipes from her show of the same name. The book is full of recipes specifically designed for entertaining, however, some of them I have cooked for general dinners. When flicking through the book the main sign that it is designed for entertaining are the helpful hints throughout about additional items that could be added to the meal. The book also contains lots of recipes for condiments that you wouldn't normally make unless you were entertaining.

The book is divided into sections in order to help find the sort of recipe you are looking for. The first section is Christmas Dinner, the second section is romantic dinner for two, the third section is party food, summer lunch comes next, followed by midweek supper party, next is formal dinner party, after that is Sunday, and then big family lunch. There are 5 more chapters that I consider to be more specialist than the previous list in terms of the types of food they contain they are, girls' night in, chocolate, barbeque, curry night and afternoon tea.

My favourite starter would be the smoked salmon pate. My favourite main meal recipe has to be the chunky smoked haddock chowder, this is so easy to through together when you don't have much time and it still tastes really yummy. My favourite desert recipe is the chocolate and pear tart which tastes really good.

Throughout this book there is a selection of instructions for drinks. These include cocktails and hot chocolates. This selection can be helpful outside of meal times as well so if you're holding a party and are stuck for a cocktail take a look and see if you can get any inspiration.

Summary: Good to have around, but not one that you will use frequently
