Advantages: good read

Disadvantages: bit slow to start

Rachel's Holiday tells the story of how Irish born Rachel is drawn to the bright lights of New York, her loves, her downfall through drugs and how she battles to regain control of her life.

Although quite slow to start, once you are absorbed in the book, most people will be able to identify with either Rachel or other characters that are resident in the rehabilitation centre with her. There is an insight into what drives people to become addicted to things whether it be drugs, alcohol or food.

Her life after leaving the rehabilitation centre shows the amount of self control that is needed to stop being drawn back into the addictive lifestlye and how gradually her self confidence is finally returned to her.

What I particularly liked about this book were the different points of views of events. Rachel's perspective of things that were happening, thinking she did not have a drugs problem, and other people's interpretation of events.

This book has a happy ending.
