Advantages: Hundreds of amusing anecdotes

Disadvantages: None spring to mind. Probably won't enjoy it if you can't stand the bloke

To be honest I'm not much of a book reader and if anything only football autobiographies appeal to me. However, I can make an exception for Shane Richie's 'Rags to Richie.'

My mum bought it and said it was worth a read so I thought I woild give it a go when I went off on holiday and only did so because I liked his character on Eastenders. Of course, my mates ripped me to shreds for reading it but I'm really glad I did!

Shane's story is somewhat unique in the route that he went down to become famous and let me tell you he doesn't half get up to some pretty interesting antics along this road! He truly does come from rags but takes every opportunity presented to him with applomb and clearly is a talented guy, especially in his ability to perform and to'blag' his way into and out of situations!

I won't spoil any of his hilarious tales but they are certainly abundant and kept me amused throughout, to the point where some juicy moments I just had to read again because they were so unbelievable but obviously true! The book documents countless ups and downs and I really found myself sympathising with Shane's every emotion because he obviously tells it at it is and is just a normal guy who wants to achieve happiness in his life and will go to ludicrous lengths to get there!

This book is definitely recommended for anyone who wants a story encompassing all the emotions of a really likeable bloke. He's a bit of a 'jack the lad' but you really wouldn't expect any less! Some of the other characters in his life produce some moments of absolute genius and I would definitely read it again a few years down the line when his stories aren't so prominent in my memory!

Note: probably not suitable for people under the age of 15 due to the explicit nature of some of his stories!
Also, I wouldn't read it if you reallly dislike him as it does have the potential to be a bit of an ego-inflator for him!

Summary: A really enjoyable read
