Advantages: helps build confidence with reading on their own
Disadvantages: None
This book is aimed at girls from 6 years to about 10 years. This is book number 2 in the Rainbow Magic series and is part of the Rainbow Fairy mini series.
This story starts with 2 young girls who have become great friends whilst enjoying their holiday on Rainspell Island with their parents. The girls are enjoying a walk along the beach with their parents when they start collecting shells, but one stands out from the rest, it is glowing orange. They hear a tiny voice from inside the closed clam shell. Trapped inside the shell is Amber the rainbow fairy. The girls have already found her sister Ruby and reunite them.
This is a great story and has helped my 7 year old daughter along her way of being a fluent and confident young reader. The story is very interesting and it keeps her gripped at all times. The story is broken down into 6 chapters. There are lots of pictures throughout the book to break up the text. This book has 73 pages. At the end of the story there is a 5 page snippet from the next book in this mini series (Saffron the yellow fairy). These books are widely available from many retailers, we got this one from Asda for 3.99.
I would recommend this book to any young reader, to help them become more confident reading on their own or to others. The book is laid out in a way that is not intimidating to an early reader. I find that just the look of some books can put off my daughter from reading them on her own, but not this one. Another great thing about this book is that it is part of a huge series, but if you have not read previous stories, it won't matter as each book has substance in its own right.
This book is currently available on Amazon.co.uk for around 3.99, brand new.
This book is written by Daisy Meadows, and illustrated by Georgie Ripper
