Advantages: Funny, crazy, superb

Disadvantages: none

Robert Rankin seems to be forever under the shadow of Terry Pratchett, but he is at least as good. Basically his books are comedies, with bizarre plots about Elvis, time sprouts called Barry, cults, aliens, basically everything you could want! He has written a huge number of books, all of which are superb, the laugh-out-loud factor is high, as is the re-readability value.

If you are a fan of Pratchett, Holt etc. then you will absolutely adore Robert Rankin. For beginners I recommend probably the Brentford books to start, the first being the wonderful "The Antipope", or "Armageddon The Musical". His books are full of running gags, catchphrases and recurring characters, as well as some insane plots, and the more you read them the more you love them.

As Midweek put it "a sort of a drinking man's H G Wells"

Read him NOW!!!
