 ... not be read out of order. You could do it, it reads as a stand alone book but y ou would miss out on the deeper mesh of the story which pulls a lot from the glorious memory of Connavar and Bane. The Rigante are now a conquered people. They are oppressed and trodden down by the Varlish who nullify any attempt by a highlander to rise to fame or riches. As I sit typing the first words of this review it is 4:25am. Do you want to know why I am awake at such a time? Because I have just finished reading David Gemmell?s Ravenheart, the fourth in the series of Rigante books. I don?t get much time to read, so usually it takes me a couple of months to read a book even one that I am thoroughly enjoying. Somehow I have managed to read this book in 5 days. I received it through the post on Tuesday, I purchased it on Ebay for the bargain price of £2:30 (P&P included) and almost immediately set about reading it. Since then he has produced over twenty fantasy novel's, many of which are destined to become classics (Legend has never been out of print in 18 years). Loyal fans of Gemmell's work will recognise that he does use the same 'building blocks' in almost all his books.
