I bought this student cook book a year before i became a student and absolutley love it! It was about £5 from one of the high street book shops but is much cheaper on amazon at the moment, especialy second hand starting from 1p! It starts by giving lots of advice and key food facts, like different food groups, how best to store food, freezing and essential ingredient to keep on hand. It is easily set out and simple to find a recipe by using the index at the end. The instructions are really clearly set out in step by step order - great for us food novices! In my four years as a student I could count on one hand the number of times I referred to this cook book. It’s title states that it is useful, in fact it is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. There are some helpful facts in the introduction to the book about avoiding food poisoning and basic hygiene rules but even these are slightly patronising at times. The worst part of this cook book is the ingredients that it suggests. How many students can afford to buy things such as prawns, squid, fresh Parmesan and fresh spinach?
