Advantages: lots of varied recipes, good advice, simple instructions
Disadvantages: lack of pud's
I bought this student cook book a year before i became a student and absolutley love it! It was about £5 from one of the high street book shops but is much cheaper on amazon at the moment, especialy second hand starting from 1p!
It starts by giving lots of advice and key food facts, like different food groups, how best to store food, freezing and essential ingredient to keep on hand.
It is easily set out and simple to find a recipe by using the index at the end.
The instructions are really clearly set out in step by step order - great for us food novices! I find following a recipe very simple and easy to read!
My favourite part of this book is the soup section, if you stock up and make, say 4 times the amount, you can freeze it for later use! If you do the recomeded serving of 2, the ingredients can be a little costley as you end up wasting bits.
Sometimes the recipe ingredients can be easily substituted with a much cheaper ingredient or by using dried herbs, and tastes just as good on a student budget! Only down side is the lack of puddings!
Summary: Useful to have on hand if you fancy something different to beans on toast!

- 15/06/09 hi, no photos, more sketches, i think the recipe have a reasonable amount of ingredient, nothing fancy, usualy 5 main ingredients and then some other herbs and spices to give extra flavour. Most recipes are stated are appropriate for 2 people. hope this helps |

- 15/06/09 What kind of recipes and how many and are there pictures and do you need a lot of ingredients, equipment and storage space? Are they aimed at students cooking alone or groups or both? Do they factor in limited fridge and freezer space? |
