The Really Useful Student Cook Book by Silvana Franco (Really Useful: Student Cook Book - Silvana Franco)
Member Name: blossom
Advantages: A couple of helpful tips and recipes Disadvantages: A complete waste of money
In my four years as a student I could count on one hand the number of times I referred to this cook book. It’s title states that it is useful, in fact it is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. There are some helpful facts in the introduction to the book about avoiding food poisoning and basic hygiene rules but even these are slightly patronising at times. The worst part of this cook book is the ingredients that it suggests. How many students can afford to buy things such as prawns, squid, fresh Parmesan and fresh spinach? Most can only just about afford a loaf of bread! The recipes suggested are also far too adventurous for the everyday student. For example, ‘Filo parcels with feta and spinach’, ‘Cajun gumbo’, and ‘Spinach and cannelloni bean stew’. Students; save yourself the £3. 99 that this book costs, and treat yourself to something far more useful. Summary: |
