Advantages: Excellent Book, Great Story, Easy to Read
Disadvantages: None
AUTHOR:
The Author for this book is Tom Clancy. This book does not relate to any other title from Tom Clancy and does not carry on the Jack Ryan story. This is an important issue to note, it is not part of the Jack Ryan Story and is not related to any of his other books. So important I wrote it twice!
First Published: 1986
BACKGROUND:
This story relates to a possible fictional WWIII attack between the Western World and the Soviet States.
THIS BOOK DETAILS:
This story relates to a problem within the Kremlin that they have a severe oil shortage due to an attack from Muslim terrorists. The only solution that they can see is an attack on the western world to gain control of the oil fields at the Persian Golf. This is all because of the lack of understanding within the Soviet Kremlin about American perception and what they would do, should they know that they have an oil shortage.
The story is well written following along the usual number of seperate stories within the one that Tom Clancy writes so well about. You follow the story as it progresses from the opening chapter as the terrorists attack, to the planning of the attack on the western world.
You follow the progress of multiple attack fronts, i.e. the attack into Western Europe & the attack onto the Persian Gulf and has some absolutely gripping moments to read about the tank battle scenes.
You really get to grips with characters within the book, like Marion Diggs an Army Tank Commander and also with a number on the Russian Side.
There is a certain amount of American superiority in firepower which comes through in the book, especially on the issue of American reserve troops fighting better than their Russian counterparts which is kinda unbelievable, although it is written very well.
VERDICT:
I throughly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an exciting, interesting read. It really does show a reasonably realistic approach to what could of happenend should the Soviets have attacked Western Europe
Summary: Great Book.
