Matter - Iain M. Banks
Epic sci-fi, Banks has the mind of three normal people, or four Bristolians

Sci-Fi & Fantasy - McCaffrey, Anne
The Beast House - Richard Laymon
Horror - Laymon, Richard

Thrilling, great action ending
Too bogged down in character, no humour

Parenting - Ford, Gina
Beneath the Bleeding - Val McDermid
Clever plot, good writing
Lacks the psychological angle that makes her books so good
