I never saw any of the original issues of ANSWER Me!, and only came across the writings of Jim and Debbie Goad in the recent ‘First Three’ collection. For the uninitiated, their stock-in-trade is the furious, vitriolic debunking of myths surrounding taboo subjects. Not just your average, run-of-the-mill taboos, either - the Goads knew what kind of people would read their rants, and focused on the topics which produce knee-jerk reactions in the most ‘liberal’ and ‘enlightened’ of readers - racism, sexism, rape, suicide etc. They were also not only unafraid of attacking their audience, but positively delighted in it.
