Advantages: Easy reading
Disadvantages: Simple plot
In big writing on the cover of this book are the words "The Queen of Suspense". I have heard about Mary Higgins Clard for years but for some reason I have never gotten around to reading any of her books. I must admit, for some reason in the back of my mind I believed she was an older writer who would not write a very exciting thriller. And to think I love Agatha Christie!! Well I was proved wrong. Remeber me is set in Cape Cod, America. A place I would love to visit. This book is mainly about a couple Adam and Menley Nicols. Their child Bobby was killed in a tragic accident and Menley has been unable to forgive herself for it. This was putting a lot of pressure on their marriage, until their daughter Hannah is born, forcing them to give it another go. They decide to rent a house on Cape Cod for a few weeks to get away from it all and work on their family relationship. They settle in easily and because Adam has already lived in the area, already have a basis of friends in the area. Then little incidences start to occur in the house they rent - Remember House - which make Menley think back to the horrible day when she lost Bobby. Things occur that make her question her sanity and her ability to look after their daughter Hannah. More importantly to her though is the fact that Adam starts to question her every move and worries about Hannah. While they are in the Cape they meet Scott Covey. His rich wife, Vivien of only three months disappeared in a diving accident during rough storms. The police investigating belive that he may have had something to do with her death. They start checking into all the circumstances surrounding Viv's life. Viv's parents also believe he had something to do with her death and when they find a ring missing bring in their insurance company to start investigating. Scott is now fighting to prove his innocence and Adam a sucessfu
l lawyer decides to represent him. While Adam is working on the case Meley looks into the history of the area with a special interest in the people that used to own Remember House. A tragedy happened in the past and Meley wants answers, what happened between Captain Andrew Freeman and his wife Mehitabel, was she really unfaithful to him and deserved to be killed. I enjoyed this book, it was really easy to read and I finished it quickly. The plot was simple and fast moving. The history of the area was really interesting as it is nice to learn something from books even if they are fictional. The ending I thought was very predictable and most readers will guess what is going on. It does not have the cleverness of some thrillers today but is okay if a bit corny. I would say it is like one of those made for TV movies. Most are crap but every once in a while you see one you love. It was never going to be a box office hit but it entertained you.
