I decided to read this book as part of my wider reading for an A-level synoptic paper on literature based on World War 1. If I'm honest I only picked up the book because it was short, and sure enough I managed to finish it in just over a few hours. The book follows the lives of five young people, all from the same rural village, as their lives are affected by the outbreak of a war that would change their generation and their society forever. The characters manage to convey a range of perspectives on the war, which makes it ideal for those studying the affect of the war on society as a whole, or for those wanting a broad introduction to this part of history. ... For my English Personal Study, I had to choose a book to read, and after sifting through the recommendations, I discovered Remembrance, and was hooked after just the first few paragraphs. Remembrance is set mainly in England during the time of the Second World War, and is based on class. Upper class citizens Charlotte and Frances are brother and sister, but interact with working class Maggie and John Malcolm Dundas. They don't get on at first, but as the war carries on, their roles change as do their personalities. This is a fantastic read. I have jumped back to The First World War for my latest book review. Remembrance by Theresa Breslin was recommended to me by a number of friends ~ they said I would enjoy it and that it needed to be reviewed to encourage others to read and (hopefully) enjoy it too. I borrowed a copy from work and settled down to read...a few hours later and I had gone through a whole gammit of emotions and completed a wonderful book. ~~~THE AUTHOR.
