Advantages: A wonderfully romantic story with complex undertones

Disadvantages: None

The Rescue is a very good book, I feel it's safe to say that it is one of my favourite Nicholas Sparks books and as Nicholas Sparks is one of my favourite authors it makes it one of the best books that I have ever read. As with all his books this story is set in North Carolina. It starts off with a raging storm, one that could be considered record breaking. Denise and her son Kyle are driving along when their car skids off the road. When Denise comes round the fire department are there but her son isn't. This sends her into a major panic as not only is her son missing, but he is only 4 years old and he has severe learning difficulties. Taylor, a volunteer fireman, goes off in search of Kyle along with other members of the force. During this time he forms a connection with Denise and her son. Taylor is well known amongst his department for taking extreme risks that no one else would take but he cannot fall in love. The remainder of the book follows the story of Denise, Taylor and Kyles relationship. It shows how it develops and how this original rescue could turn into rescuing Taylor from a life without love.

I find that many of the parts in this book grip my attention. I enjoy the descriptions of the small town lives that the main characters lead, coming from a large town it is hard to imagine living in a place like that and Nicholas Sparks often makes it seem really enjoyable. I also really liked the focus on Kyle. The story puts an interesting perspective on his learning difficulties and shows the mothers love and frustrations with the issue brilliantly, it also adds an additional slant by showing the role that Taylor plays in overcoming these difficulties. Obviously the main part of the story that I like is the romance, as a true romantic I can't help but be moved by the story line as it progresses. I don't want to give away the ending so I will stop right here and just say that this book is well worth reading, it will definitely make you smile :)

Summary: Something to make you feel all warm inside
