The city of the dead is the novelization of the classic game resident evil 2. When films or books come along about video games, usually you think here we go again probably a rubbish book that has nothing to do with the actual game story line..........but this book by author S.D Perry is a excellent representation of the game!
The book follows both leon's aspect of the story and claire's aspect of the story. Most of things that were in the game are in the book as well, and are written very well it is quite hard to put a video game into words but S.D Perry does it very well. She explains the story from leon and claire's point of view because in the game they meet each other and then split up so take make sure the whole story is told she follows both leon and claire.
I can't really say much else about this book execpt it is a fantasic book that gives you the same scary feeling of the video game. And overall the story is told very well just like the video game a great buy for all resi fans.
Having played most of the resident evil games, with Resident Evil 2 being my favourite, I was pleased to find a novelistion of the game. This paperback is 338 pages longs and follows the story of the game very well. The characters Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Ada Wong have their individual stories told, and other characters from the game make an appearance such as Cheif Irons and the Birkins along with the zombies, monsters and bad guys.
The book is very easy to read and the story keeps you reading, rolling along nicley. Although having played the game, I knew the outcome, I was still kept glued as the picture of the action is painted very well, giving you a new view of the characters and their struggles along with their thoughts and feelings as to what is happening in the Zombie infested police station.
If you have never heard of Resident Evil before, don't be put off by the fact that this is a novelisation of a computer game. The book could be read as a thriller or adventure story without knowing about the franchise as the characters are all given back stories and brought to life really well. You would not be lost as the book does not assume that the reader knows about the video game and does not make this a 'geeky' read that only fans would enjoy.
If you are a fan of the series then this is recommended too, because the story gives you a good backstory along with explaing things that happened in the game and giving a better understanding of the events.
When I first started reading, I thought that it would be a poor story or a boring read, but i was surprised and would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good read.
