The problem with S. D Perry's books is that you simply can't stop reading when you've started.
Zero Hour was the last Resident Evil novel Perry wrote, and yet the events of Zero Hour, as fans will know, begin before the original Resident Evil appeared.
Resident Evil Zero follows the STARS Bravo team, who begin their search for those responsible for the murders that have been plaguing Raccoon City. The openings chapters follow Rebecca Chambers, the nervous and youthful Bravo's medic. The book really begins as Rebecca Chambers is seperate after a mechanical fault with the teams helicopter causes it to crash land in the heart of Arkley Woods, exactly where all the missing people of Raccoon City had first been reported as missing. She soon finds the Umbrella Corporations private train and thus begins the horror.
Even though Zero Hour is based on Resident Evil 0 Perry still manages to bring clever depth to the characters we know and love from the video game itself. Her creative skill is shown as she introduces only a handful of characters, being able to expand on their personality and emotional states throughout the novel. If you're a fan of the video games then you should easily find comfort in knowing Perry has done a wonderful job turning them into novels. Easily one of the best fantasy writers I've ever come across, and as a huge fan of the series as a whole it was easy to get lost in the pages.
The rule for Perry is simple, if you're a fan you need to have these in your collection. You'll regret it if you don't.
