This is a very, very, very funny book. It continues at the point where The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy left off, with our main characters on their way to The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, an extremely up-market establishment, which crosses the end of time every night, for the entertainment of its customers. How Adams comes up with such ideas I have no idea, but it had me in stitches.

Obviously I can't tell you too much about what happens, but the plot really is superbly contrived. The twists at the end are worthy of Roald Dahl. This is where the book differs from Hitchhiker's Guide. Whereas in the former book Adams seems to have simply started, and then thought, what can I do now, and what can I do now....in Restaurant he clearly knew the end from the beginning, and the surprises in the plot are well prepared for.

This is a much better book than Hitchhiker's Guide, with much less of an air of slapstick about it. Some of it may seem cliché now, but this was the original. Everyone should read it!
