And so my set of Scarrow reviews ends , until the next one is fully released. The Gladiator is the 9th in the series.
Well after surviving the parthian threat , Macro , Cato and his new beloved are heading home. But the book would be boring if they returned safely , no , a massive earthquake has struck Crete and the group are washed up and see the horrifying damage.
Not only has the earthquake destroyed the area , but its in chaos. The slave population has revolted and are lead by a charismatic character , who after seeing Macro wants nothing but revenge.
Roman men and weaponry become property of the slaves and the balance of control is switching.
The story is very exciting per usual , the added feelings of Cato for Julia, and the problems caused by the slave revolt make it very action packed. Old characters return and rivalrys are settled.
The characters are recognisable and interesting, the developing love between Cato and Julia is a nice addition as there hasn't been a true love storyline in the series.
To be honest after reading and reviewing the previous eight books, its very hard to know what to say, that hasn't been said already. But I will say that this book hits a high standard and takes the story in a new direction, as the slaves revolt is very emotional and the feelings come through very well.

Very good addition to the series
