Advantages: CHILDHOOD STORIES
Disadvantages: NOT MUCH
RONNIE is the title of English snooker player Ronnie O'Sullivan's autobiography.
O'Sullivan is arguably one of the greatest players of all time winning nearly everything in the sport.
The early part of his book documents his bizarre childhood. O'Sullivan came from a rich background mainly due to sex shops his family acquired. Not only that, but O'Sullivan's father was in prison so he didn't have a father figure around. O'Sullivan is brutally honest about his father's crime and the lack of a father figure had a big impact on his early days. Usully I find stories about childhood boring though in this case it's fascinating.
O'Sullivan writes about how he got into the sport. He never knew if he would be as successful as he was, though knew it's what he wanted to be. His snooker stories are interesting particularly the moments when he goes crazy in matches which is quite often. His thoughts on other snooker players are good with his honest opinions on who he likes and those he doesn't. His hero Jimmy White is often mentioned as Ronnie's rolemodel and the two come across as very similiar.
He even opens up about the depression he suffered from and the problems that he faced in life. O'Sullivan faced many demons and those are all expressed in this book. It's a section I felt was hardest for him to write, though he expresses his opinions openly.
Overall, this is an amazing story of a troubled spoortsman who has excelled. O'Sullivan has made the often mundane of snooker sexy even though in his personal life he struggles. The writing is good and you get through it easily. There are some wonderful anecdotes and great insights into the sport. There are a few photos of Ronnie in the book.
Avaliable from AMAZON at £4.00 this is a good sporting read.
