I am addicted to james patterson books, but non more so than the Alex Cross ones. The are all fab! In roses are red, Alex Cross faces the sadistic Master mind. Alex finds himself torn between the need to look after his beloved family in the midst of a crisis, and the must of solving the massive bank jobs in the city. Not only are these people robbing banks, they are slortering inocent people, it would seem, just to add excitement. In his quest to solve the case he teams up with the FBI. A team Alex his self is not sure about. As all patterson books, you just cant put it down. I read from page 1 to the end in 5 hours. Patterson never ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Alex Cross has a new villain to contend with (485 words)
by - written on 11/12/08 (Very useful, 52 readings)
Rating:

Rose Are Red is a James Patterson novel featuring his favoured character, Detective Alex Cross. Cross books have featured a number of different villains, but with this book, Patterson introduces us to a new criminal in the Mastermind, and pits Cross against him. The Mastermind is terrorising the financial part of Washington with a series of heists, excellently controlled and with no foreseeable way of tracking him down or stopping him. Alex Cross, homicide detective with a PhD in psychology, is assigned to the case, but with events taking wild turns in his private life as his family and friends are threatened, Cross finds his loyalties divided betweening ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Roses Are Red - James Patterson: Roses Are ... A Rather Dull Flower. (1027 words)

The crime / thriller genre is my favourite to read, so I am always interested to hear about good authors in this field. Many people have recommended James Patterson to me, who I had heard of but never read, so I bought one of his novels from Ebay – Roses Are Red, which was published in 2000. I will admit here to a slight prejudice towards female authors. This has always been the case from Judy Blume and Enid Blyton through Jane Austen, Martina Cole and Kathy Reichs. I do like some male authors – Ben Elton and Terry Pratchett come to mind – but I definitely prefer women writers. Maybe this has tainted my views on Patterson somewhat. But I will try to offer an ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Maybe as a movie, not as a book (887 words)
by - written on 22/07/01 (Very useful, 124 readings)
Rating:

“Roses are Red” is available in Tesco for £4.84 and with this book you get a copy of “Pop goes the Weasel”. Both books are written by James Patterson and feature Detective Alex Cross. I had not read any of Patterson’s previous work but I was aware of the movie versions of “Kiss the Girls” and “Along came a Spider”. I must admit that I thought that “Kiss the Girls” was a very poor film but given the accolades on the back of the book Patterson’s writing was probably going to be worth a look. The first thing I noticed is that there was a chapter ever 3 pages on average. There are over 120 ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Roses Are Red - James Patterson: Shocking crimes, but are we missing something? (1542 words)
by - written on 24/11/08 (Very useful, 187 readings)
Rating:

Having spent an unjustified number of months on the last novel, I was looking for a book I would get through a little quicker this time! I now feel the need to take a book with me wherever I go, and hence I did not waste too much time fussing over what to go for, but went for this book (one I had bought as part of a box series) because I thought the cover looked nice. Yes, I did judge a book by its cover. The Story As with some of the authors I previously read, like Quintin Jardine and Steve Martini, James Patterson has written Roses are Red as part of a detective series. The detective here is called Alex Cross, a true family man with an ongoing ...  Read the complete review
