Advantages: popular nursery rhyme, in a book!!
Disadvantages: none for us
I picked this book up along with a large stack at my local library. Jake has dozens of books at home, but I get so bored with the same ones and like to give Jake (ahem... myself) more variety.
Row, Row, Row Your Boat is one of those nursery rhymes that always gets a good response from Jake, he screams at me when he sees the crocodile!!
This hard board book is around 20cm x 20cm (not accurately measured in afraid!!) and a yellow-orange colour. On the cover is a small boy and what looks like Disney's eeyore, in the row your boat 'position'.
The following ten pages each show children 'rowing the boat' along with the words of the nursery rhyme in three verses;
Row, Row, Row Your Boat gently down the stream
Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, Merrily
Life is but a dream!
Row, Row, Row Your Boat gently down the scream
If you see a crococile,
Don't forget to scream (AHHHHHHGHH Says Jake)
Row, Row, Row Your Boat Gently to the shore
If you see a Lion,
Don't forget to ROAR!
Its a fun books, which shows all the children each intimating the expected actions, even a croc and a lion show up!!
The book was illustrated by Annie Kubler and I feel that she has done a great job of this. Each child drawn has differing skin tones and hair colours, which I think is great and not something I regularly see in a children's book.
Generally, when I sing with Jake I don't need the words to follow, but I still go through the motions with this book!
