Bird watching is a popular hobby in Britain, and getting more popular all the time. After all, it's healthy (you can spend all day walking if you want to), cheap (a pair of binoculars is all the equipment needed), and gives the bird watcher a glimpse of the wonders (and cruelty) of nature without needing to go on an African safari. The novice (or even experienced, for that matter) birdwatcher has a problem, however. There are lots of different species of birds, many which look almost identical.
