 ... rating, though, that even though I had a bit of fun reading through this, I'm not exactly recommending it. Part of the new sub-genre of Da Vinci Code-esque thrillers, there's nothing startling original about the plot. Take one age-old secret, bring it into the modern day where various good- and bad-guys are trying to get their hands on it, and throw in enough action to distract you from the sheer hokum. Raymond Khoury clearly thinks he has discovered a magic formula. His first book - The Last Templar - was a quest to uncover an ancient secret known only to a few. His new one - The Sanctuary - is, well, a quest to uncover an ancient secret known only to a few. You know what though? Khoury might be right - maybe he HAS got a magic formula. In a little more depth, the plot takes in a woman's quest of to free her mother, kidnapped whilst in pursuit of a mysterious book. Needless to say, her quest is not straightforward and involves lots of clues, chasing around and visits to exotic locations!
