Ultimate Book of Incredible Eye-twisters - Mark Hanks:
... s that time of year when the market is flooded with novelty Christmas books which are normally given pride of place in the local Waterstones or W.H Smith. These publications are generally cheap and nasty items which have been rushed out solely to be picked up as last minute stockingfillers by shoppers. One such book is The Ultimate Book of Incredible Eye Twisters by M.P Hanks which can currently be purchased fro... Read the full review: Incredible?... no. Eye Twisters?... no. by JJJJ |

Home Birth: A Practical Guide - Nicky Wesson ... the book "Home Birth - a Practical Guide" is misnamed in a sense because it doesn t actually tell you all that much about the practicalities of giving birth to a baby (it seems clear that as the author, Nicky Wesson has written a whole other book about that aspect of things she didn t want to give too much away in this volume) you ll find there is some mildly relevant information on the bearing-down-and-fetching-water-and-warm-towels aspect of the proceedings over two pages of Chapter 10 - the do-it-yourself delivery. While I can say from recent personal experience that this isn t nearly enough to be of help to you when the midwives haven t arrived a... A Brief History of Time - Stephen Hawking ... into it. Unless you ve studied physics to quite a high level (degree) this is a challenging read. I appreciate that Prof. Hawking has described many of the concepts in it in what he would say were laymans terms, but it s still a little on the tough side to visualise what he is talking about - especially later on, where he has made the assumption that you have completely understood and grasped what he talked about early on. I challenge anyone to understand what the teapot in space and flying spagetti monster are first time around. They are concepts that the man in the street simply cannot understand without considerable effort. Despite this, the book is worth p... Read the full review: Brief History of Time by Gaven |

Mars: Uncovering the Secrets of the Red Planet - Paul Raeburn ... is the most similar of all the planets in the Solar System to our home, the Earth. Mars has seasons, a 24 hour day, polar caps, and evidence of ancient seas. There are clouds on Mars, and it snows occasionally, too. Although the atmosphere is too cold and thin for liquid water to remain on the surface, the river valleys which are so evident across the planet means that water must have flowed here millions of years ago when Mars was warmer. There is then, a chance that life arose during the billion years or so that Mars was more hospitable than today; perhaps life still clings on, deep underground, as algae or bacteria, or perhaps something even more complex. Mars h... Read the full review: The story of Mars in glorious colour by markos9 |
