Robert Goddard is one of the best thriller writers around. He was the first winner of the W.H.Smith Thumping Good Read Award (for "Into The Blue" in 1990) and he has been described as "the master of the triple double-cross" and "the prince of plotters" His paperbacks carry the legend: "The most compelling storyteller of them all". I can personally vouch for that - the first Robert Goddard novel I read kept me glued until 4am one night. His novels usually follow a set pattern: Middle-aged bloke going through a mid-life crisis meets and falls for a mysterious woman who then disappears. Robert Goddard has written some of the most compulsively readable thrillers I have come across in recent years. He invariably constructs complex plots, drawing the reader in as the novel gathers pace. Finally, the strands are unravelled in what is a satisfying, frequently moving conclusion. Most readers will be full of admiration for Goddard's skill and will look forward to his next book. Unfortunately, I believe those of us who have looked forward to Sea Change will have been pretty disappointed.
